January 25th was not only a kick off of the One World One Heart Celebration, but the 251st birthday of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns.
Each year, friends in our town and people all over the world gather together to celebrate the poet's life, by reciting his poetry, eating his favorite meal, singing Scottish songs and wearing colorful tartans.
This year, it was our turn to host the celebration. We had the opportunity my mother and I, to collaborate and give the party together. My mom created our invitation (above). In case you don't remember, my mother is the Master of celebrating !
She made the Cockaleakie Soup and a Vegetarian Haggis. Others brought meat pie, turnips, mashed potatoes and Baps (rolls).
Here's my mother, presenting the Haggis.
I created Trifel for dessert &..............
the little tartan banners, that flew over the dinning room.
Guests read selected poems after dinner, but Bill made everyone laugh till they cried as he recited: Such a Wife as Wullie had, I wouldn't Give A Button For Her!
Next, Frances played the piano ~
And we all sang Scottish folk songs ~
A good time, was had by all!
